Rising Regina officially began in the summer of 2007 as a sister act of Jessica and Kiki Young. Later that year, accomplished multi-instrumentalist Rich Kulbacki joined the creative duo to complete the core of the band. From 2008-2010 the band toured as a five piece with various members filling out the rhythm section and in late summer of 2010 found themselves without a drummer or bassist. In the winter of 2010 the band added well known Pittsburgh talent Eric George as their Percussionist, and, after almost three years away from the band, original bass player Dave Traugh joined back up in June of 2013. Now, after already playing over 220 shows together, the band is complete for the long haul and once again ready to hit the road for extended touring.
An exceptionally versatile band, Rising Regina’s sound incorporates the best of American roots music including rock, folk, blues, jazz, bluegrass and Celtic. They released their first full length original album, entitled “Travel Lightly” in May of 2010 to rave review from both local and non-local media outlets alike. In October 2011 they released their 2nd album, an EP, entitled “Rearranged” which is a compilation of traditional songs that the band put their own spin on and also includes one original. With both albums it is easy to hear the bands differing tastes and inspirations, as the eclectic blend of styles and sounds keeps you on the edge of your seat. Rising Regina is also in the process of recording their 3rd record which will be released in the spring of 2014.
The band has played in many high profile venues and festivals and shared the stage with such diverse artists as Parachute, American Authors, Enter The Haggis, The Guggenheim Grotto, The Clarks, The Spring Standards, Bill Deasy, the Granati Brothers, and Bob Banerjee. With their percussive, roots rock sound, tight harmonies, and upbeat, irresistible arrangements, Rising Regina will move you!
