A vocalist almost his entire life, & a drummer of over two decades, music has always been an overwhelming & obsessive force in Eric’s life. Fueled by his father, who provided a constant exposure to Classic Rock, Folk, Blues, & Progressive Rock that reaches back to his earliest memories, Eric would be consistently involved in various vocal, choral, & barbershop ensembles from elementary school onward. He spent many years in musical theater, starred in a few lead roles (including Captain Von Trapp in “The Sound of Music”), earned the honor of 1st Chair in the 2nd Bass section of a choir comprised of close to 200 school districts, & toured the country for three years with Geneva College’s touring & performance choir, all the while developing his 3+ octave vocal range. He even pursued flute for a year, of all things. But when he got his first pair of drumsticks back in 1992, his life truly changed, & he’s been playing percussion of all forms relentlessly ever since.
With influences spanning the musical spectrum, including Classic Rock, Progressive Rock/Metal, Jazz, Acoustic, Folk, Funk, Heavy Metal, New Age, Pop, Industrial, Electronica, Trance, Gothic, Punk/Emo, etc, etc….he has always struggled to focus on just one musical endeavor. After spending time between 2000-2005 writing, performing, & recording with guitar virtuosos Brad Lebakken & Ron Kauffman, as well as local acts The Hunch, and YearSeven, Eric felt the need to branch out even further, & since 2005 has focused on building a widely diverse career as a first-call session drummer/percussionist in the Pittsburgh area. In that time, he’s been blessed to have worked with literally hundreds of musicians & bands, lent his rhythms to numerous recording sessions in various studios, & has toured a sizable chunk of the north-eastern / north-central United States. He first met the folks in Rising Regina back on September 18th, 2009, while sharing the bill at the Hard Rock Cafe. They immediately fell in love with each others sound, & for the next year they would continuously flirt with the notion of maybe someday working together. The Fates would align almost exactly one year later, & Eric has been thrilled to be a part of the Rising Regina family ever since. He’s currently also the mainstay behind the drums for several other Pittsburgh-based acts, has been the house drummer for Club Cafe’s high-profile AcoustiCafe Open Stage for the past 5 years (where he’s lovingly & respectfully earned the title of Pittsburgh’s Drumslut), & continues to fill his calendar with session gigs…all while building up something truly unique & wonderful with his band mates in Rising Regina.
